The planet Earth, also called by its Latin name Terra, is the only planet in our solar system known to support life. It is the third planet from the Sun and the fifth largest. It is also the densest of all of the planets in our solar system.
Along with Venus, Mercury, Mars and Ceres, the Earth is known as a terrestrial planet meaning it is made up of minerals - rocks, metal, etc. Non-terrestrial planets are formed of gas and known as gas giants or gas dwarfs.
Since Astrology is based on an Earth-centered model of the universe, the Earth is not one of the planets assigned signs of the zodiac. However, it is the position of the Earth that makes the immovable stars and constellations appear to move in the sky so the Earth's position and the position of the subject upon the Earth has a great deal of impact on astrological calculations.
Within many Pagan traditions the Earth takes on a divine aspect, often seen as a Goddess or, much less frequently, a God, who takes care of all the creatures who live on Earth as children.
