Natural History
Quartz is a clear or white form of silicone dioxide found throughout the world. Indeed it is the second most common mineral found in the Earth's continental crust, with feldspar taking first place. Quartz is often found embedded in sedimentary rocks, including sandstone and shale and as part of igneous rocks, like granite.
History and Folklore
Pliny the Elder believed quartz to be ice, permanently frozen after very long exposure to freezing temperatures.
Also called the Witch’s mirror and the Star Stone.
In parts of Asia, crystal is thought to be pure dragon essence.

Clear quartz crystal absorbs energy from the Sun and the life force in the trees and plant life. It also draws down Divine light. It stores all this energy to be released as needed. This energy is released as white light that can be absorbed by any chakra. It also raises the vibrational level of its surroundings.

Where is the source for Herakles dropping the Crystal of Truth off Mt. Olympos? I can't find any other sources except for this site. I'm a Hellenic polytheist and I've *never* heard this myth before.
I don't know. The person who wrote this article is no longer a member, so I can't ask her, so I just took it off. I'll put this page on my list of pages that need a rewrite.
Forgive my innocence but is there a connection between quartz and hawthorn trees? Thanks
Not that I am aware, beyond the idea that hawthorn is a fairy tree and people like to leave offerings to fairies and crystals are popular fairy offerings. If you come up with something more concrete, please do let us know!
I can sense energy from it even when I'm not meditating with it. When I do, I quit shortly, because somthing about the copious ammounts of energy is unsettling. What does red quartz do?
Red quartz is quartz and iron. Iron is very active and aggressive and quartz is an energy conduit, so I would say your experience with it is about what one would expect. It is very useful for healing and other situations where a lot of energy is required, but I don't expect it would be helpful for meditation.
Okay, thank you so much!
