I don't see why not!
A more complex answer: witchcraft is a craft. This is kind of like asking "can anyone become a painter?" It takes practice & training, and some people may take to the craft more naturally than others, but anyone can learn!
Witchcraft is a craft. It takes study and practice. Not everyone has the personality for it, but anyone who wants to and has the time and inclination to put in the work can, certainly.
It is possible. But it takes a lot of work including belief. Doesn't happened over night. It's dedication.
Here's the more detailed, bitter truth answer.
No. Witches (warlocks, etc) are born. It's not hereditary, it's spiritual. It's your very soul that determines what you are. Not everyone is capable of using magic, of practicing witchcraft successfully.
Just because you call yourself a witch, doesn't make you a witch. Just because you chant spells, light some candles, mix some herbs, doesn't make you a witch. Nor will those spells even work. Spells themselves don't have power, after all, it comes from the witch.
Magic is something you are born with. Some have it, most do not. Don't be upset, though; the only person who really knows what you are… is you. If your soul is magically endowed, you'll know.
Some might ask why? Well, there are people who will call themselves witches/warlocks/sorcerers/wizards for a time, but who eventually grow bored and stop. Those people were never witches to begin with.
Well you,are are absolutly right Larch!
Stfu !! People who stop just come to realize that it's bad and demonic.. not because they were never witches to begin with !! Lol.
It's because of ignorance like yours that gets people confused.. smh
I bet u probably haven't been into the craft 10 yrs yet ???
Hi, I really want to know if I have, like you said "my soul magically endowed", I think I'm a very spiritual person, and really love everything about magic, spells, sigils, symbols, etc. But I want to know if there is a way know if I have potential or not, thanks a lot.
Are you willing to put in the work? You pick the answer that best suits the tendency to say "I can't." Magick is the energy that flows through the Universe. It flows through all people and all things. You either learn to manipulate it to your Will, or you don't. Some people find this easier than others, but it is impossible for no one. The idea of "talent" breeds laziness. If you can see light, feel heat and/OR hear sound, you can sense energy. If you can sense it, you can use it. If you can remember your dreams, you can work on the Astral plane. If you can do anything at all that causes your heart rate to increase, you can raise energy and if you can hold the same idea in your head for more than five minutes you can direct it. Whether or not you actually learn to do these things is matter of whether you are Willing to put in the effort, not whether you can or can't.
I have to disagree. All creatures are born with life energy and a connection with the universe, it just weather you have the patience or not. Genetics only play a part when it comes to what you excel at, but that's it.
I like this answer. I came to this site to shed some more light on questions I have. Moreover, I like to see what witches and warlocks think about what they do. (I think sometimes they can often contradict themselves and not fully understand what it means to be a witch or rather, what it should mean.) My path led me to a group of witches and to witchcraft a few years back. Growing up I could never explain my curiosity/drive to understand certain things that I later found all connected to being a witch. Although I found a deep and (at first loving) connection to a witch who read past lives and found me with her in one of them as a witch..(It didn't surprise me of course.. d/t the strong connection we both felt when we met and my psychic tendencies along with young interest in the craft) It turned out that I wasn't meant to fit in with them and my beliefs were a bit different. Long story short, we had a falling out due to bad communication and different beliefs. It shocked me as to how quickly she turned her back on me and shut me out of her life. It was one of the most painful experiences I had ever been through at that age. Although I believe in magick, I never decided to fully embrace it. I grew to accept that God (monotheism was better for me) aids me in my work here on Earth and I never had to use any spell to make anything happen that was good for me or others. When I did use a spell, it was discovered by someone by accident and quickly broken only, as if to teach me that it wasn't the right thing to do. I learned quickly that the drive for most spells are selfish. Witches try to interfere in what they should not. With power comes responsibility, and I decided that it was leading me further away from the Truth. Truth, of course, is hard to find and the only way to find it is by listening to yourself and calling out for help to the Higher power. … and there will always be questions… for me I wonder if theres still a happy middle with my monotheistic belief in God along with paganism/witchy ways. (I say that very broadly for a reason) Part of me thinks that theres a lot more to being a witch…. my questions are:
1.) As a witch, do you believe that power comes from you or God?
2.) Do you believe that intent is enough? Why are spells even necessary when we are meant to learn from our mistakes, our human mistakes, in life?
3.) What as a witch do you think the purpose of your craft is? If it is harmony do you not believe that balance should be the focus? What is your focus?
~love and light~ … I'm not sure what I am as far as religion/way of life but… I know that wisdom is being withheld in almost every tradition I can find…
Lots of people call themselves musicians for a while and grow bored and stop too, it doesn't mean that anybody can't be a musician. It also doesn't mean they were never musicians. It means they were, and then they weren't. Likewise, lots of people play music here and there without being a serious musician. Lots of people who aren't Witches dabble a bit in witchcraft here and there and their spells often work just fine. Just like you can learn to play a little tune on the guitar without learning how to read music or even the names of the cords, you can cast a perfectly functional spell without knowing how it works. You won't be very versatile, but you can do that one thing. Maybe even well if you do it often enough. Doesn't make you a Witch (or a musician), but you can do it.
Magic is just manipulating energy that is there. Nobody has more of it than someone else. We aren't born with a Magica bar like on a video game. The energy is there. It can't run out, you can't get more, it's just there. You can learn to manipulate it or not. If you learn to manipulate it, you can be a witch. Or something else. Witchcraft is just one style and, frankly, that style is becoming more and more nebulous to define. Learning magick is hard work. You have to change your whole world view, discipline your mind to work in a different way and learn to control your emotions. Not everyone is willing to do that and maybe not everyone is capable of it, but that's a matter of personality. It certainly doesn't take being born with a special soul or some nonsense. You just do it, or you don't. It's hard like quitting smoking is hard because we are, in fact, addicted to our paradigms.
Anyone can cast a spell and it might work. That's the purpose of a well-written spell- it's automatic. It's like a do-it-yourself kit with all the pieces pre-cut and measured and all the hardware included, just fit tab A into slot B and go. (Doesn't make you a carpenter) Many people eventually realize that all the ceremony is bleeding waste of time and just DO it without all the fuss and nonsense. The fuss and nonsense allows people who don't know how to do it to do it without knowing how. Some people spend their entire lives calling themselves witches, casting fancy spells on a monthly basis and never really understanding any of it. Are these people real witches? Maybe.
There can be some argument about whether it's about the result or the reason. Some people consider witchcraft a spiritual practice or a practical practice or a mixture of both. I am of the opinion that if it gets the job done, it doesn't really matter how you go about it. However, there are those who believe you have to follow a certain religion to be a witch (or one of a certain family of religions) and that the practice brings you closer to your Gods, or whatever. Witchcraft is about getting things done. It is basically a gentle nudging of reality. The energies we use are natural energies and you have to have a pretty good idea how they work to get them to nudge properly. If that means you have to give these energies a name and a bunch of symbolism and call them God, then, so be it. But it's wholly unnecessary. You can call it Quantum if you like, too. Or karma if you absolutely must. It doesn't matter how you get there, what matters, in my mind, is the result. If you find spiritual gratification in the process, good for you. If you need religion to keep your magic from being used for immoral purposes, all the better. It is my experience that religion is more often used to excuse immorality than to encourage morality, but I digress.
Believe whatever you like. You don't have to know how it works for it to work and if you do know how it works, it doesn't make it any less magick.
If you make a serious long-term study of witchcraft and make a habit/lifestyle of it, and it brings about satisfactory results, I think you can safely call yourself a Witch. Not everyone has the wherewithal to do it, but wherewithal can be learned, just like witchcraft.
I am not totally female. Can I become a witch?
I note that 'morningbird' says that "Magick is energy that flows throughout the Universe" I believe the energy is shortwave radio which propagates magically — I have heard the strangest things on shortwave … If I could become more female I think radio would offer me a shortcut to reaching witchhood.
There are plenty of non-female witches.
A witch has nothing to do with gender, the Universe doesn't have a gender and yet we're a part of it. "Gender" is just a symbol of what you were randomly chosen to be able to do to keep your race going. And there are some people born a boy AND a girl.
