There are different schools of thought on this. Requesting the aid of spirits can be defined as some as religion, not magick, while many witches and other magick-users do enlist the aid of spirits, many also do not. Some combine magick and religion and others keep them strictly separate. Of course, some magick-users don't believe in Gods and spirits. Some would define those things brought about with the aid of spirits or deities as miracles, not magick.
So, in short, Yes, there are lots of spells without the help of spirits, no, you don't need the aid of spirits to do magick. Personally, I pray if I want the Gods help, I do rituals and offerings for local and ancestral spirits, and my Witchcraft, my magick, does not evoke or invoke them at all.
Dude, I'm new to the Witchcraft but even I know, a lot of spells don't need any help from spirits! I hope this helped.
